Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians were trained in the National Training and Development Curriculum (NTDC) and are now currently using the NTDC American Indian Alaska Native Kinship themes to train their Kinship (relative) families so that they can license their kinship families. In the near future, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will continue to use the NTDC curriculum and make some changes in their approach. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are online learning for their relative families but are flexible for having in-person learning for older relatives that prefer the one on one. Many of the relatives have shared that they like having the flexibility to train as other types of trainings are set during the evening hours or weekends, this allows them to be with their children, families, and be active in the community. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians staff who are trained facilitators have expressed that this curriculum is a good fit for the community and plan on doing a train the trainer with the new staff that they are hiring so that they can become facilitators. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians shared that their experience with varying curriculums or resources that they have chosen to use much of these have to be adapted to their tribal community by their staff this often takes time to make all necessary adaptations but what they have found is that they did not have to make significant adaptations for their tribal community.
